Oculus vs. HoloLens debate
VR and AR are going to go two completely different directions; AR is all about enhancing the physical world around you, while VR is all about minimizing the the physical world. Currently, there is a lot of overlap, but it won't be that way forever. Eventually, AR and VR will be going two separate directions on the same path.
VR has a number of applications for which it is only marginally better than it was back in the mid 90's. Every one of the VR cliches used by VR companies has been used over and over since the heyday of Jaron Lanier. There simply is no vision; no original thought. Developers, many who have squandered their youth cloistered away playing computer games, don't have enough life experience to be able to figure out an application that would be meaningful to people who aren't enamored with technology for technologies' sake. The future of VR has come and gone, it isn't really going to get that much better. Much like riding a roller-coaster, the thrill is ephemeral. AR on the other hand will be forced to evolve once the IoT starts gaining traction.
