The world's largest producer of gold, and one of the most influential countries in African politics, South Africa is the southernmost country on the African continent, and is one of the most diverse African countries to be found. With 11 different official languages and a completely diversified culture made up of ethnic and cultural differences handed down over the generations, this democratic nation has a distinctly British feel to it as a result of its many years under British rule, although it has been independent since 1961.


Arguably one of the most talked-about and visited countries in the world when it comes to tourists, Egypt stands out as the birthplace of one of the earliest civilizations. Today the country is known for her many pyramids, the Sphinx, the Nile River, and for the various mummies, temples, and other cultural and historical references to a bygone era when the ancient pharaohs ruled the vast land.



The Country: Japan is an island country in the North Pacific Ocean. It lies off the northeast coast of mainland Asia. Four large islands and thousands of smaller ones make up Japan. The four major islands—Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu, and Shikoku—form a curve that extends for about 1,200 miles (1,900 kilometers). More than 126 million people are crowded on these islands, making Japan one of the most densely populated countries in the world.

North America


Mexico is a Hispanic country in North America. The festive culture celebrates a mix of "Indian" (precolonial) traditions, Spanish customs, and modern American influence. The Spanish language and the Catholic church play large roles in society. A sensuous blend of food, music, and color lend themselves to create a vivid community.


Cuba is a country in the Caribbean, occupying its own large island, as well as smaller nearby islands. The country's position just off the coast of Florida and near neighboring Caribbean islands has produced a highly unique nation. In famous Havana or elsewhere around the island, strains of tropical music mix with Spanish colonial history, revolutionary politics, and a globally relevant culture.
