How are doctors suppose to be geniuses in the U.S?
Unless I'm mistaken, you do a defined course of study in college, apply to a med school, do a defined course of study there, proceed through a defined residency program, pass a licensing test that along with the other credentials creates an enormous moat around the profession, then enter an occupation where the AVERAGE income is far above typical for other jobs. This is the definition of an assembly line. That is why when a new procedure in medicine happens, every doctor needs to go back to school. That is why most changes really matter with the next generation of graduates. For most people though.... When they get cancer is their doctor going to know how to engineer the herpes virus to attack the cancer cells? Nope, most doctors will do, what, 1970s radiation therapy.
I believe the study of philosophy to be necessary for a comprehensive understanding of the world.
